Dingle Peninsula Car Hire

Several international car hire companies operate out of Kerry Airport. The car hire desks are located in the main concourse outside the arrivals hall. Please Note : Car hire companies should be contacted directly, and not through the Kerry Airport main switchboard as the car rentals are separate to the airports telephone system.

National Transportation

Bus Éireann: Regular bus services into the Dingle Peninsula are run by the major national carrier, Bus Éireann (Irish Bus). Bus Éireann has a nationwide network of buses serving all cities, towns and villages in Ireland. Services run from Tralee and Killarney to Dingle, with stops at Inch, Castlegregory, Camp, Annascaul, and Lispole.

The Bus Stop in Dingle Town is located at The Tracks, adjacent to the new pier. In Winter and Spring, when the region is not as busy, Bus Éireann has a service a few times a week to the Gaeltacht area, west of Dingle. During the busy tourist months there is a daily bus serving the area west of Dingle, with stops at Ventry, Dunquin, and Ballyferriter.

Irish Rail - Iarnród Éireann: The entire railroad network in Ireland is owned and operated by Iarnród Éireann (Irish Railways) a company that is sponsored heavily by the government. There is no private rail company in Ireland. So all of the country's timetables can be found at one website (listed below).

There are express services between all major cities, including an express service to Tralee Rail Station, situated 30 miles from Dingle Town. Unfortunately there is no train service to Dingle, as the Steam-powered train that ran the Tralee-Dingle route was decommissioned in 1953. The train has now been restored to its former glory and runs a 2-mile stretch between Blennerville and Tralee.

The closest rail stations/depots to Dingle are located at Tralee and Killarney. Both of these stops are on the same line, approximately 45 minutes travelling time apart. As in many towns, the rail and bus depots/stations are housed in the same location, making bus transfers easy, and travel timetables for both services are posted here.
