Ballyferriter Village![]() Cultúr, Ceol agus Craic! Baile an Fheirteáraigh (Ballyferriter) by Marian O'Flaherty, eirelandor of www.dinglenews.com Baile an Fheirteáraigh (Ballyferriter) is located amid the rugged rural heartland of West Kerry. This quaint village and its surrounding area is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Ireland ; as well as the patchwork fields and the colourful vista which surrounds this village, this is an excellent location in which to savour true Irish culture and custom. Traditional Irish music, the Irish language, custom and culture plays a big part in Baile an Fheirteáraigh's appeal and there is much to do. Just twelve miles West of Dingle, in Baile an Fheirteáraigh you can enjoy swimming at the nearby white sandy Beál Bán, nestled in the shadow of the Three Sisters. Walking, mountain-trekking, horse-riding and an array of other activities are also available including a challenging golf-course at Ceann Sibeál (Europe's most westerly 18-hole golf course), where there is also an excellent club-house, which offers amazing views of the Blasket Islands, the Atlantic and the immense cliffs.
A major Traditional music festival is also hosted in Baile an Fheirteáraigh once a year, Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh ( www.scoilcheoil.com ), which sees Traditional musicians from across the globe, travel to West Kerry to perform and host master classes. Baile an Fheriteáraigh is also a hot-bed of archaeological sites and the Museum in the village itself provides a hive of information. © Marian O'Flaherty 2009 Republication, without the permission of the author, is strictly prohibited ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
